THE PENTAGON PAPERS: CONSTRUCTING AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE WAR We inaugurate our “Fighting Words” series with the best-known publication to come out of The Vietnam War: the 3,000-page, 4,000-document Report of the Secretary of Defense Vietnam Task Force, better known as the Pentagon Papers: how it was conceived and created, what it said, and its impact on America.


Dayton, Ohio: Center of InnovtionDAYTON, OHIO: CENTER OF INNOVATION: Dayton is the non-host of the VVA Leadership Conference that never was. Nonetheless, it’s a vibrant city with an interesting history—and home to VVA Dayton Chapter 97 and its unique Vietnam veterans memorial.


The Beatification of Joe WalshTHE BEATIFICATION OF JOE WALSH: Long known as one of the bad boys of rock and roll, Joe Walsh has taken a keen interest in America’s veterans. Walsh’s VetsAid holds annual star-studded benefit concerts, with the proceeds going to veterans organizations.


From Sea to Shining SeaFROM SEA TO SHINING SEA: VVA’s Dick Tobiason is obsessed with renaming Oregon’s major highways in honor of the veterans of America’s wars. Now he’s looking nationwide, with plans for a coast-to-coast National Medal of Honor Highway.
Chapter 154PROVIDING FOOD SUPPORT DURING THE PANDEMIC: Michigan’s Chapter 154 has had to reexamine its food pantry delivery procedures in the wake of the pandemic, but it’s still helping needy veterans and their families.
Detroit Chapter 9DETROIT VAMC RECEIVES CHAPTER 9 FACE MASKS: The husband and wife team of Greg and Hang Hansen, with the help of Detroit Chapter 9, is fabricating and distributing face masks to protect chapter members and workers at the local VAMC.

Chapter 1054A POSITIVE RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC: Rural South Dakota Chapter 1054 has many members and many projects. Responding to COVID-19, the chapter has been distributing face masks and honoring the VAMC staff.
