Stepping Up Online

BY JOANNA HENSHAW, AVVA PRESIDENT

AVVA held its April board meeting online, as we have for a year now. It went well and a lot of business was completed.

AVVA has stepped up its online presence for soliciting donations for our national programs by making two major changes. We upgraded our website to a secure site, which gives us several advantages, and we associated ourselves with a new donation processing company that gives us a far more professional look and far better services and support. Go to our website and check out our donation button. You’ll find a pleasant surprise.

AVVA has chosen the 2021 Project Friendship recipient, and I believe everyone will heartily approve. This year we will be collecting Project Friendship donations for Combat Female Veterans Families United, an organization offering services to women veterans in need of the services every veteran is entitled to and has earned. Often, unfortunately, these veterans are ignored. Please visit their website—cfvfunited.com—and consider a donation to Project Friendship this year. Any amount is welcome. You can view the flyer with PF donation details at www.avva.org/pf.html

The board has been discussing the details of the Convention. All deadline dates for registrations and award nominations have been extended. The Convention will be held November 2-6. Hotel information and other details are on our website.

The new Candidate Registration deadline is June 1. The deadline for AVVA award nominations is June 20; and the registration for AVVA delegates is now September 30. The Convention registration form is not yet available, but keep an eye on the AVVA website—http://www.avva.org/convention.html—for updates. The deadline for submitting bylaw amendments has been extended to July 7.

New information will be posted on the AVVA website as it becomes available. Questions can be referred to your regional director. This is going to be a very good Convention.

This is a good time for all of you who have state and chapter websites to make sure they are current and correct. People look to you for information, especially now that we are starting to be able to come together again. Everyone stay safe and keep diligent. We are going to come out at the other end soon.

AVVA’s 2021 Project Friendship recipient will be Combat Female Veterans Families United. The Greensboro-based organization works to improve the circumstances of returning female veterans, who until recently have been systematically forgotten. CFVFUnited offers transitional assistance, litigation assistance, housing, counseling, and more.

Make checks out to AVVA and mail them by September 30 to Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Rd., Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Or give your checks—made out to CFVFUnited—to the AVVA Treasurer during the Convention
